Constipation
This is a common problem in the child population and is not necessarily associated with a poor diet. If left untreated, symptoms can become progressively worse, the child may experience pain or discomfort and their appetite may reduce. It can also result in soiling accidents, where softer poo “spills” around the hard poo and leaks out unexpectedly. The physiotherapist can palpate (feel) the abdomen and/or use ultrasound scanning to help confirm signs of constipation and will then formulate a treatment plan to resolve the issues. This might include advice regarding some small dietary/fluid changes, educating your child on how to poo more effectively, along with any other helpful tips and tricks that the physiotherapist feels is relevant to your situation.
