Day Time Wetting
Successful toilet training is usually achieved by the age of 4, but for some children, it takes longer. The most common causes are underlying constipation, an overactive bladder, or overfilling.
If you require guidance through this important stage in your child’s development, the Physiotherapist can use a variety of assessment techniques to help establish potential barriers and provide you with some strategies to achieve this goal.
During the initial assessment, the physiotherapist will ask lots of questions around the leakage including when it happens, how much, how often and any known triggers. The examination usually involves gentle palpation (feeling) the abdomen, ultrasound scan and sometimes (if appropriate and if consented by the parent/guardian) a visual inspection of the pelvic floor. Once the cause of the leakage has been established, a plan will be put together to help resolve the symptoms.
