What is Clinical Program Classes and how can they benefit you?

At Western Women’s and Men’s Health in the Western suburbs of Melbourne, we offer a range of classes to suit people of all different capabilities.

Clinical Programs are very popular at our Hoppers Crossing physio center. These are adapted from Clinical Pilates, created in the 1920s by trainer Joseph Pilates who originally introduced Clinical Pilates to help injured athletes and dancers safely return to exercise and maintain their fitness. Pilates improves postural awareness, core stability, length of muscles, requiring concentration, rhythm, and breathing awareness. There are a variety of many alternative exercises to suit everyone whether they are injured, new to Pilates, athletes, or may be part of your physio recovery program.

We offer group and semi private based Clinical Pilates using specialized equipment called reformers and trapeze, exercise machines that consist of a bed-like frame using different weighted springs, leverage, and body weight as resistance while performing movements to target specific muscle groups. It is great for people who are recovering from an injury or wanting an exercise for injury prevention as well as strengthening.

Research shows that practising Clinical Pilates improves body awareness and pelvic and spinal alignment, whilst doing exercises that aren’t putting the body under unnecessary stress. Some classes include a box, hand weights, weighted balls and/ or a Pilates ring.
